SUPPORT DOVER SMART PROJECT
Where Community, Creativity and Care Come Together
At the heart of Dover Smart Project is a simple but powerful belief:
when people feel supported, connected and valued, whole
communities thrive. Our charity exists to reduce loneliness and
isolation, nurture creativity and create a safe, welcoming space
where people of all ages can come together, share experiences
and build confidence.
Every week, our work touches the lives of children, young people, adults and older
members of our community through a wide range of free, supportive groups, all
offering refreshments, lots of cake and creative activities that encourage
conversation, expression and connection.
We proudly run three Young Carers groups each week, supporting young people
aged 5 to 18 who help care for a family member. These groups give young carers time
just for themselves, a place to relax, be creative, have fun and connect with others
who understand their experiences.
We also hold a number of other groups:
Tuesdays 10am - 12pm, we host the ART of Age, a gentle, creative group for older
people, those living with dementia and their carers. This group offers a relaxed,
welcoming environment where creativity supports wellbeing, connection and shared
moments of joy.
Wednesdays 6pm - 8pm, we have our Smart Socials, a weekly craft and social
evening for women. Where people are encouraged to bring along their own project or
start a new one.
Thursdays 10am - 12pm, our Cancer Support Group provides a safe, understanding
space for people affected by cancer. Alongside creative activities, participants find
peer support, friendship and the comfort of being with others who truly understand.
Fridays 10am - 12pm, we run our Young Carer Parents Group, offering parents and
carers the chance to connect, unwind and share experiences in a supportive and
friendly setting.
Monthly Monday Reset, on the first Monday of every month we are hosting a free
community coffee morning with the goal to help people start their month off the right
way. People can come and play board games or simply just sit and chat.
All of these activities take place in our community art gallery, a vibrant, inclusive space
that hosts regular community exhibitions and celebrates local creativity. The gallery
gives people of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to exhibit their work, often
for the very first time, helping to build confidence and a sense of pride.
